| | "What's a Girl to do", Bat for Lashes | ] | Well, I hinted on my last post at some special art news coming up... and thus, here it is: Those prints I had been working towards since last summer have finally come into a reality! After having to inform interested buyers here in Canada that all my originals were being exported for shows (*though not to say I'm not thankful and happy about such, since I'm totally stoked!*), the gallery I used to show at here in Ontario (Dorland-Haight) thought prints would be a good way to continue keeping a base in the home land, as well. And even though the prints are priced in Canadian Dollars, they're also for sale world wide ^__^
So! We chose a range of images/sizes from different periods of my art career. If these prints go smoothly, I'll hope to release something more current in the future. The Giclee prints I have for purchase now are high quality, printed with archival inks on canvas and archival Cotton Rag. They're signed and numbered (of course), and are limited to an edition of 50.
For more info. please check out The Shop I finally got set up on my website ~ there you will find prices and such. If you have any questions feel free to contact the gallery at d-hgallery@bellnet.ca - (905)628-0800 or if you feel the need to contact me personally, then just send me an email at joncas_sarah@hotmail.com ~ Thanks!!
**Note - Gallery closed Sunday and Monday. Time zone EDT**

P.S. If you find any problems with my website-shop, please let me know... Computers are tricky >__< |

Sorry for the lack of updates I am currently finishing school works for my finals. Also my Intuos2 is officially broken and I'll be buying a brand new Intuos3 pretty soon. I was going to buy a Cintiq 12WX but I really thought a lot about it and asked lots of pros out there and they told me that I don't really NEED a Cintiq and that I would be better of with my intuos. each have their pros and cons but I think I'll just save $700 for now and maybe buy the new ATI 4870x2 Card when it releases w00t! Ati is smoking Nvidia so far at least in the cost-performance ratio and that new card is just going to be a BEAST. Also I bought a new domain name so pretty soon I'll gather some time to make a decent portfolio website again at least for my clients. It will be www.iamalexxx.com cheers! |

Ok so yesterday's post was all for loving America! Wooo! But a few comments in recent comics have reminded me how much I love old political cartoons, and now I am making a post about that. Unfortunately for you, America, this means you are out of luck! Little did you know, because you don't give two damns about Canada ever, but we care lots and lots about you. We know all about you! We also think you are out to get us. Allow me to show you a thing or two.

So this is a CD cover I made for my friends' band, Stolen Bread is Better. They are amazing people who make ridiculous folk punk songs about werewolves and polar bears and bike polo. They also just totally opened a show for Ghost Bees which I totally missed, and am extremely bitter about! Ghost Bees are crazy good. I wish I could keep them in a jar by my bedside so they could sing me to sleep every night.
Ah well! At least I managed to find time to finally update my comic.
Happy Friday, everyone. |

Not that Nova Scotia (which at the time was both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick together) didn't try to go make themselves Americans back in the day because some totally did.
On the other hand, you could take this comic as John Campbell's words becoming true.
Happy Independence Day, America! |

In honor of America's independence, I will give you my family's traditional German potato salad recipe, which in no way involves eggs, mayonaise or anything else likely to spoil in the heat. (I don't understand the general populace's desire to play roulette with food poisoning at picnics.) Strangely I've never seen anything like it anywhere, ever, outside of family gatherings.
- 4 - 5 lbs of potatoes
- 1/2 lb bacon
- several slices of onion, diced
- 1 tbsp butter or bacon grease
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/4 c vinegar
- 1/2 c sugar
- 1 c water
- 1 tsp salt
- pinch mustard, optional
Peel, dice and boil potatoes until tender when pierced with a fork; drain. Fry bacon until crisp. Using 1 tbsp of melted bacon grease, sautee diced onion in the bottom of a small sauce pan over medium-low heat. When onions are clear, add flour and mix well. Add vinegar and sugar to mixture, then the water, salt and mustard. Gradually increace heat to medium and stir until the sauce thickens and boils. Remove from heat and crumble bacon into the sauce. Pour over potatoes and allow to cool. Serve warm or chilled. Nom, nom, nom.
Perhaps because of my allergy to spicy things, I have a fierce love of everything sweet and sour. So I can say that the cucumber salad from Hello Yarn goes fantastically well with picnic food - especially using sweet pickle brine instead of regular vinegar and throwing in a few carrot shreds.
And here is a song for you to listen to while you eat potato salad today:
* It's not what you're thinking, really it's not. The addition of the New Orleans brass band alone removes this from the typical Bruce Springsteen oeuvre. |

| Day 232: Time And Again |

THE SETTING:
You were told it was going to be over in a matter of hours, but it's been over a day and you're still stuck in the Shelter.
It was a beautiful week in the big city where you work. The weather was seasonally pleasant, the people bustled back and forth between work and home, and everything was working just as it always has. Then, on Friday afternoon, loud sirens went off all around the city. On the TV and radio, there were news reports of a giant chemical spill on the highway. Apparently several trucks had flipped over and spilled an unidentified hazardous substance out onto the road. Due to the spill the air in the city has been deemed unsafe by the government. You and your co-workers were shuttled to various locations to "Shelter in Place". "Shelter In Place" is a term used to describe sealing yourself in an enclosed area to wait out an emergency. You have been given a radio, toiletries, a first aid kit and told to wait in this location until the radio announces that the air is clean.
In the beginning of this crisis, the radio announced that this emergency would be over within 8 hours. However, it's now been 24 hours and the radio has been repeating the same message, to remain calm and to stay indoors. All of you who have cell phones have run out of batteries and the radio is the only method of contact with the outside world. You have already eaten the limited supply of granola bars and water that you were left with, and all of you have begun to feel hungry, restless and nervous about the continuing situation. It is now twilight and a new message is coming over the radio waves. . . |
